And I ask you to absorb the drama of life's contrasts, both tragedy and triumph, both sorrow and joy, both success and failure, so that it will shape your communication for the future . If you want to have something to convey, you have to absorb it, you have to learn it, you have to internalize it . That is my first skill. I ask you to be so intense that you don't miss the drama or the occasion. So I ask you to soak it all in as I do. I want this day etched in my memory forever. Each day is a piece in the mosaic of your life.
Don't let any pieces be missing as your life unfolds. They will be treasures you'll remember one day. Whether you talk to a child to broaden your vision of the future. Whether you talk to a potential client or the president, it doesn't matter who you talk to. Absorb this day so that you don't waste it. You will have it. Wherever you are, let yourself be touched by the drama of life. That is what it means to let yourself be affected. To affect others, you have to let yourself be affected.
To touch others you have to let yourself be touched. To move others you have to let yourself be moved. Let it happen to you. Here's the key. Let life touch you. Don't let it kill you, but let it touch you. Don't stand idly by. Don't put up a wall around yourself that nothing can get through. Don't put up all the shields and all the barriers . The wall that keeps out disappointment keeps out happiness. You can't have it both ways. You have to let yourself be touched. Take the risk.
Respond. I'm one of the best guys in the world to put on a movie. I respond to a movie. I love a good movie. Make me laugh, make me cry, shake me. Hell, scare me to death, but don't leave me unmoved. I'm asking you, don't go so lightly. Key phrase: Going lightly ends in misery. Don't go lightly in gathering information, don't go lightly in life's experiences. Don't go lightly in your dealings with people. Don't go lightly in observing and absorbing and being affected by the drama of life.
Don't go lightly. Your life will be so narrow, your mind will be empty, your spirit will be dry. You won't have the capital of heart and spirit to give to a child when he needs it, to a daughter when he needs it, to a son when he needs it. You will lack it. I ask you to let yourself be touched. Absorb it. Feel it. Here's number three. Learn to reflect. This is an interesting skill. Reflecting simply means reviewing, replaying the tape. I call it. Review your experiences. Review where you've been and what you've seen and what you've heard. Let me give you a few good moments to reflect. Number one, at the end of the day. Take some time at the end of the day. Review your schedule, review your to-do list.
Review the events of that day. Who did you see, what did they say to you? And how did you feel? Replay that tape, both the emotion and the experience. That day will be valuable if you reflect on it at the end of the day. Then at the end of the week, take a few hours and review the week so that that week will be more valuable and serve you in the future. Then at the end of the month, take half a day at the end of the month. Review your schedule, review your travels, review your meetings, review the occasions, the good and the bad, the highs and the lows, the joys and the sorrows. Review the last 6 years, the triumphs and the failures, the victories and the defeats . For what? To invest those last 6 years in the next 6 years and make them that much more valuable. This is what is valuable about the past. It is commodity, coin, currency. You can invest it in the next experience, you can invest it in the next recruitment or the next meeting. Don't just let the past go by. Reflect on it. Absorb it a
little bit more. Remember it. It is powerful. Isolate yourself for a while and meditate on your life. Meditate on your past and meditate on your future and you walk out of that room and you walk down those mountain trails and you walk away from that alone time and now you are powerful. Now you are almost invincible. Here's number four. Now you have to take action. Number four. Learn to put all of this experience into a plan, into a program. Taking action is what makes the three things I talked about earlier valuable. It produces life, it produces wealth, it produces profit, it produces results, it produces success, it produces progress, it produces productivity and that's what life is all about, producing. So now take the past and invest it in the future. Gather your experiences, what you remembered, what you felt, what you've seen and what you've heard.
That's what makes an experience valuable on stage, on film. A well-written script, yes, but those raw emotions that can mix with a well-written script, affect someone's life, touch their heart and soul, move their mind, their intellect and touch their spirit. If you work at it, you can become good. It's called personal development of the best kind. Don't get lazy here. The time to act is when the emotions are hot, when the feeling is there, when the momentum is there.
That's the time to make the plan. Not in some lazy moment, when you're just drifting, you're going to make too many mistakes in making your plan. Make the plan when the emotions are high. After you get out of here, before the feeling and everything wears off, make your plans. The calls you're going to make and the meetings you're going to conduct, the people you're going to reach out to, the disciplines you're going to undertake, the new things you're going to do. Put that in place while it's hot, because if you don't, this is what your experience is going to be and it's called the law of increasing intention. We have intention when it's hot, but intention starts to wane. The minute you get out of here it starts to cool off. You have to make sure that before it completely cools down, you've put it into action, you've put it into work, you've put it into effort, you've put it into a meeting, you've put it into an invitation, you've put it into a call, you've put it into a structure. Here's the last
skill and that's developing the skill of sharing. Sharing is one of the most extraordinary human experiences there is. You say, "Well, what's in it for me to share?" I'll tell you why. Those who share usually get the most benefit. That's self-interest, right there, which means everybody wins. Now that you have an idea, share it. Now that you have something that could change somebody's life, share it. If you have an opportunity to help somebody with their financial future, share it. Now you have something that's going to help a parent walk with dignity and pay their bills. If you have it, share it.
Don't keep it to yourself. That's the key. If you save your life, you'll lose it. If you just protect yourself, you're lost. Taking care of yourself leads to poverty. Investing in yourself leads to wealth. And I'm asking you to make the most extraordinary investment here. Put an idea in someone's experience and let them run with it. And if they like it and go for it, who knows, maybe you'll help them come out of the shadows and someday they'll say, "Maria, that morning when we had breakfast and you passed me this idea, that was the day my life began to change forever. Thank you very much."
I'm telling you. Join the sharing experience. Key phrase to take home. Be a serious student. Be a serious student of life. Be a serious student of people . Be a serious student of business. Be a serious student of financial independence, a serious student of how to build a financial wall around your family that nothing can get through. A serious student of how to develop all your skills and abilities. Be a serious seeker of truth. Never give up on your quest for knowledge. That's the first step to success, learning. And now write this down. Direction determines destiny. And you can't change your destiny overnight, but you can change your direction. And if you change your direction a little bit, in a week you'll notice the difference. In a year the difference will be amazing. That's what ideas are for. Be a collector of good ideas. The second step to success is good plans. Develop good plans. If you have a vision, you need a good plan to carry it out. If you have a dream, you need a plan to make it happen. If
you want to be healthy, you have to have a plan. Once the vision is clear, now you have to put it into a plan. Step by step, hour by hour, day by day. Discipline by discipline, act by act. Here's the third step to success, learning to manage the passage of time. How important this is, learning to manage the changing seasons, learning to manage the changes in life. Each of us has to take responsibility for gathering ideas and preparing ourselves with multiple skills to lead our family hand in hand into the 21st century.
Fearless, challenged, but fearless. Confronted, but fearless. In transition , but with spirit, heart, soul, confidence. That with language and with spirit and with skill and with commitment to each other, as a nation, as a group, as a company, as an industry, as a community, we will weather the test of time. It just takes a little patience. Be patient, you have to give it time. You have to give it time to the collective work of art that is unfolding. Patience. It takes time to build an orchestra. It takes time to achieve harmony. It takes time to bring people together from different backgrounds but with one purpose. It takes time to build a team, it takes time to put it all together. So give your project time, give your organization time, give your children time. And one of the most important, give yourself time. Don't write yourself off too soon. It's easy to say , "I'll never learn that. That's beyond my reach. I don't seem to be able to do it." Hey, give yourself a little more time. Don't be impatient with yourself.
The orchestra will eventually come together. Have some patience. The organization will eventually produce. Have some patience. It takes patience to help someone come out of the darkness into the light, out of the shadows, into success, past the coins and into the fortune. It takes patience . Be patient with the seasons and the transition. You have to be patient from spring to fall. Harvest, patience through the summer. Take on the challenges and see if you can solve it.
You have nothing, try changing it. You don't have enough money, try changing it. You want to be financially secure, try to get it, solve the problem. That's what life is all about, solving problems, challenges. I'll give you a hint for solving problems. Sometimes it's good to get it out of your head and put it on paper. Draw a line down the center of a piece of paper and write the problem down here. You say, " Isn't that negative thinking?" Yes, you have to do some negative thinking. You have to weigh the negative side, the problem. You can't have a good answer if you don't weigh the problem. Now, you don't have to dwell on them, you don't have to obsess over them and spend a year on them. But sometimes it's a good idea to notice the problem and then say, "That's it." Well, no, here are a couple more. Let's put it all out there so we can come up with good answers. On this side of the paper , we have answers and solutions. And now let me give you three questions to solve almost any problem. Question
number one, what could I do? There's no point in moving forward if you can't solve it. And you better try to solve it yourself before you move forward. Why? You don't just need the solution, you need the muscle. We teach this in sales training. More important than a sale is the ability to sell. Skills are more valuable than sales. Sales are temporary. Skills are forever. Don't say, "I need the next sale." What you need is the next skill. Those will get you more sales. Make sure your sales lead to skills. Then skills will lead to sales. Now, if that's not enough, here's number two. What could I read?
There might be a book about your problem or a book about your current challenge. Someone may have spent a lifetime and encapsulated it in a book with some answers for you. I ask you to be diligent. If you have a problem, be diligent. If you have a challenge, be diligent. Don't cross your fingers and say, "Well, I wish, maybe." Number one, search your own head, your own experience, your own heart and soul.
Check and find the answers. But if that's not enough, I'm telling you. Go out and seek. The future is too valuable. The seeking is too important not to take the time to go out and seek ideas. Now, if that still isn't enough, here's number three. Who could I ask? Don't be afraid to ask, but write this down as well. Don't ask first. Take these steps first. Don't go here first because you need the muscle, you need the exercise, the skill, the developed process, the strength of the process, plus the answer. You can't imagine how much help you can get from people who first want to know. Were you willing to help yourself? That's the key. And the reason is we need the muscle. We haven't heard that it's better to be taught how to fish than to be given a fish. Why? Being given a fish is temporary. Learning to fish is permanent. What you have in your hands now, share it. What you have in your heart, pass it on. What you have in your soul, give it away. Some mistakes you made served you well. Help someone.
Save them from making the same mistakes . Save someone from despair. There are people who will not experience the joys of success, power, and the future until you come along. So I ask you to hurry up and lead the next meeting by investing in the next person's life. You will be rewarded not just with money. Who cares about money? We are all going to get rich. What matters is the richness of the spirit, the richness of the heart, the richness of the soul. Write this down. Human beings have infinite capacity. There is no limit, we are not lacking in capacity.
We have incredible capacity, but it cannot be expanded and expanded and tapped unless you pour out what you have with patience and joy, with anticipation and excitement. Whether they respond or not, you can't change people, but they can change. Just pour out, pour out. When you pour out, you become bigger. Why bigger? So that you can embrace more of the next experience . Take it now and let's work miracles with everyone we touch. God bless you.
